1956 STUDEBAKER FLIGHT HAWK

 

The Flight Hawk was a product of a Raymond Loewy design. Loewy is frequently credited as the “Father of Industrial Design.” Based on the Champion two-door coupe which had been introduced for the 1953 model year. Like the other 1956 Hawks, the Flight Hawk received a new hood, grille, deck lid and instrument panel. Flight Hawks otherwise had the minimum amount of exterior chrome. Things like oil filter, backup lamps, radio, clock, windshield washers, outside mirrors, heater and full hubcaps were all ordered from the factory or optioned through the dealer.

 

Unlike the other Hawks, however, which were all powered strictly by V-8 engines, the Flight Hawk came with the Champion’s 185.6-cubic-inch (3.0-liter) inline six-cylinder engine, rated at 101 horsepower (75 kW). Teamed with this engine is a standard three-speed manual transmission.

 

 

Production:

  • Coupe, Model 56G-C3, 4,389 total, broken down by manufacturing plant:
    • 2,508 (South Bend plant)
    • 557 (Los Angeles plant)
    • 584 (Hamilton, Ont. plant)
    • 740 (Exported to other countries)
  • Hardtop, Model 56G-K7, 560 total, broken down by manufacturing plant:
    • 9 (South Bend plant)
    • 52 (Hamilton, Ont. plant)
    • 499 (Exported to other countries)

Of the four available Hawks for 1956, the Golden Hawk, Sky Hawk, Power Hawk and Flight Hawk, the Flight Hawk was the second-most popular. The Power Hawk, with 7,095 produced for all markets, led in sales by a fairly wide margin.

 

Studebaker decided to simplify the Hawk line for 1957. This decision spelled the end for the Flight, Power and Sky Hawks, which were combined into the new Silver Hawk series. As of the end of 2012 the best count as to the remaining 56G-C3 and 56G-K7 Flight Hawks is approximately 60 but only 38 restored in original condition and running.

 

This rare little car is in a nice driver condition. It does have a few minor paint imperfections but looks very good for a driver.  Overall it is just a very nice driver that would make a great addition to a collection or just to drive and show off at local car shows. This car is nice and solid and is ready to be enjoyed!

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL HOT ROD THAT WAS BUILT BY A RETIRED AIR CRAFT MECHANIC. THIS CAR WAS HIS BABY THAT HE DROVE UP UNTIL HIS HEALTH MADE HIM PART WITH HER. HE DEVOTED ALOT OF TIME AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL MAKING THIS LITTLE BEAUTY STAND TALL AND SEPERATE IT FROM ALL OF THE OTHER HOT RODS THAT WAS BUILT WITH AFTERMARKET PARTS.  HE TOOK HIS ALL STEELE HENRY FORD BODY AND SIT IT ON TOP OF A 1932 FORD FRAME THAT WAS BOXED FOR STRENGTH. THEN HE ADDED A 1948 FLATHEAD FORD 59AB MOTOR THAT WAS BORED AND BALANCED. THEN HE ADDED A LIGHTENED FLYWHEEL AND STROMBERG 97 CARBERATORS, OFFENHAUSER HEADS AND INTAKE MANIFOLD , AND A MALLORY IGNITION. HE BACKED THAT MOTOR UP WITH A CHEVY 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION AND A 9″ FORD POSITRACTION REAR END W/ 4:11 GEARS. HE THEN CUSTOMIZED A 12 GALLON FUEL TANK SO THAT HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT AND HE OVERHAULED THE 1950’S INSTRUMENTS TO SET THE DASH OFF.  THEN HE MADE ALL THE FINAL TOUCHES THAT ONLY A REAL OLD SCHOOLER FROM BACK IN THE DAY COULD PULL OFF TO MAKE THIS JUST AN OUTSTANDING HOT ROD!!!

This Outstanding piece of American History came from a collection in Tennessee that the gentleman restored many top of the line FORD Automobiles. He passed away and this car was purchased from his estate. All of his collection was restored in absolute mint condition with nothing spared.  This car is a awesome piece of American Auto History and a must see.

 

This 1940 Ford Convertible Deluxe is an absolutely beautiful nut and bolt restored auto as if it came of of the ford assembly line yesterday.  This 1940 Ford is stunning in every aspect of the way. The Ford BLACK paint is very beautiful and shines like new money. All of the chrome is in absolutely beautiful  condition and presents itself as if it were new.  The brown Interior look stunning and also is in like new condition.  Everything on this car is in very great condition and presents itself like it was new. THIS IS WHAT A TRUE TN SURVIVOR CAR LOOKS LIKE. THIS IS A VERY NICE 1947 LINCOLN THAT STILL CONTAINS MOST ALL OF ITS ORIGINAL COMPONENTS. IT RUNS AND DRIVES OUT VERY NICE AND IS A FINE EXAMPLE OF WHAT YESTER YEAR LUXURY WAS ALL ABOUT. THIS LITTLE GIRL STARTS RIGHT UP AND IS A PLEASURE TO CRUISE DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHILE BEING ADMIRED BY THE PASSING MOTORIST, BECAUSE IT DEFINITELY GETS ATTENTION!
EXTERIOR: SHE STILL RETAINS HER ORIGINAL COLOR OF GREEN, AND THE PAINT ON HER IS STILL IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. ALL OF THE STAINLESS PIECES ON HER ARE IN VERY NICE CONDITION AND LOOKS VERY GOOD. THE CHROME DOES HAVE SOME PITTING AND PEALING BUT OVERALL STILL LOOKS GOOD. THE ALL METAL BODY IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS AND NEAR PERFECT CONDITION WITH NO RUST THAT I HAVE FOUND. THE SUICIDE DOORS OPEN AND SHUT NICE. ALL OF THE BODY LINES HAVE A VERY NICE APPEARANCE. SHE IS SITTING ON A SET OF OLD DIMPLED WIDE WHITE WALL TIRES. ALL OF HER TRIM AND EMBLEMS ARE PRESENT AND ACCOUNTED FOR. THE EXTERIOR IS NOT PERFECT BUT PRESENTS ITSELF VERY WELL.
INTERIOR: THE INTERIOR HAS THE ORIGINAL LOOK BUT IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. IT IS DONE IN A TAN/BROWN MOHAIR TYPE MATERIAL THAT LOOKS AND PRESENTS ITSELF VERY WELL. THERE ARE NO (NONE) TEARS OR RIPS THAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE. THE INTERIOR STILL RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL PULL HANDLES ON THE DOORS, SEATS AND B PILLARS AND ARE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. ALL OF HER GLASS IS CLEAR AND IN GOOD CONDITION. IT DOES STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL HYDRAULIC WINDOWS AND THEY ALL WORK, BUT SOMETIMES THE SWITCHES DO HAVE A MIND OF THEIR OWN. LOL. THE DASH IS IN VERY NICE CONDITION AND IS A BEAUTY TO LOOK AT WHILE CRUISING HER DOWN THE ROAD. THE LOCKING GLOVE COMPARTMENT STILL RETAINS IT KEY. THIS CAR HAS THE REAR SEAT HEAT FOR COMFORT. DRIVE TRAIN: THIS BIG GIRL IS POWERED BY ITS ORIGINAL 292ci V12 FLAT HEAD MOTOR, AND IS PAIRED UP TO A STANDARD 3 SPEED TRANSMISSION WITH OVERDRIVE. AGAIN THE DRIVE LINE IS ALL ORIGINAL TO THIS CAR AND WORKS AS IT SHOULD. THIS V12 FLAT HEAD STARTS RIGHT UP AND PURRS LIKE A KITTEN. IT HAS A SOUND ALL TO ITS OWN. A NEW DISTRIBUTOR AND IGNITION HAS JUST BEEN INSTALLED (VERY EXPENSIVE) ON THE ENGINE, AS WELL AS NEW MOTOR MOUNTS AND WHEEL CYLINDERS. THIS DRIVE LINE SEEMS TO BE IN VERY GOOD WORKING CONDITION.

This is a very nice and very clean 68 Caddy Convertible that is ready to hit the road with a brand new set of Coker 1.6 white wall tires. This caddy has 62,7xx original documented miles on her and runs and drives like a dream.  She is ready to go topless and enjoy the sun and fun this summer as she cruises down the road with the wind blowing over her windshield and making you the happiest person in town. A few more of her specifications are:

Exterior: The exterior metal is unbelievably straight with no signs of any issues. The paint is in very good condition and is very nice and shinny. It had a repaint in 2004.  All the chrome is in unbelievable condition to be 46 years old. The underside  is very nice with no signs of repair or rot. All of the glass is in very good condition including the glass rear window in the convertible top. All of the marker light lenses and taillight lenses are in very very good condition. It also still contains two of the four T3 headlights. The exterior of this car is just absolutely wonderful and has been very well maintained throughout its life.

Interior: The interior of this car is just as beautiful as the exterior,  if that is even possible.  The interior was done in 2007 and the  seats, carpet and door panels  look like they just came from the upholstery shop, they are in that good of condition. There are no holes, rips or tears that I have found anywhere in the car.  The dash looks great and I have found no cracks, holes or imperfections. All of the power windows roll up and down and work as they should. The top is power and it also work very smooth. It had a new top installed in 2003 and it is still in like new condition. It has had some very nice custom floor mats made with the Cadillac emblem sewn on them. The interior is very nice and comfortable and is very pleasing to the eyes.

Drivetrain: This Cadillac has sixty two thousand original miles on her. It is powered by its 472ci engine and power transmission.  I just purchased a brand new set of Coker 1.6 white wall tires for it.  The previous owner had owned this car for over 13 years and had only put around 600 miles on her. It has been garage kept its entire life.

Overall this is just a wonderfully kept time capsule from 1968. This car screams luxury in any direction that you look at it. It is beautiful inside and out and drives great down the road.
